Historical Overview

The Hawker Typhoon entered service in 1941 and, despite early engine reliability issues, became one of the RAF's premier tactical strike aircraft. Armed with four 20mm Hispano cannon and capable of carrying rockets or bombs, Typhoons played a vital role in supporting Allied forces after D-Day.

The improved Hawker Tempest entered combat in 1944 and quickly established itself as one of the finest piston-engine fighters of the war. Tempest pilots destroyed hundreds of V-1 flying bombs and later scored victories over advanced German aircraft, including the Me 262.

Together, the Typhoon and Tempest were instrumental in achieving Allied air superiority during the final year of World War II.
