Tamiya 1/35 Sturmtiger 38cm Assault Mortar
Full Product Description
Tamiya 1/35 Sturmtiger 38cm Assault Mortar
Developed late in World War II, the Sturmtiger mounted a gigantic 38cm RW61 rocket mortar on a modified Tiger I chassis. Intended for urban combat and bunker destruction, the vehicle fired enormous rocket-assisted projectiles capable of demolishing buildings, fortifications, and defensive strongpoints.
Only a small number of Sturmtigers were produced, making them among the rarest German armored fighting vehicles of the war. Despite limited production, their massive mortar and distinctive appearance have made them one of the most popular subjects among armor modelers.
Tamiya's kit accurately captures the imposing look of this unique vehicle while providing a detailed fighting compartment, breech assembly, ammunition rounds, and crew figures. Originally released as an all-new tooling in 1994, it remains one of the most enjoyable Sturmtiger kits to build.

Historical Background
The Sturmtiger entered service in 1944 as Germany searched for weapons capable of defeating heavily fortified Allied positions. Built on battle-damaged Tiger I hulls returned from combat, the vehicle mounted a huge naval-derived rocket mortar firing projectiles weighing over 750 pounds.
Sturmtigers saw combat during the Warsaw Uprising, the Battle of the Bulge, and the defense of Germany during the final months of the war. Only eighteen vehicles were completed, making the type exceptionally rare.
