Full Product Description

Tamiya 1/35 Soviet Heavy Tank KV-2

Introduced in 1940, the KV-2 was developed to destroy bunkers and fortified positions during offensive operations. Built on the KV-1 chassis, the vehicle mounted a huge turret housing a powerful 152mm M-10 howitzer.

When Germany invaded the Soviet Union in June 1941, KV-series tanks stunned German troops. Their thick armor proved nearly immune to many standard anti-tank weapons, while the massive KV-2 could devastate enemy strongpoints with a single shell.

Although its enormous turret made the vehicle slow and mechanically demanding, the KV-2 became one of the most recognizable armored vehicles of World War II and remains a favorite subject among armor modelers.

Tamiya's modern tooling reproduces the vehicle with accurate proportions, realistic cast textures, detailed suspension components, and an impressive turret that dominates any display shelf.

Historical Background

The KV-2 entered service shortly before Operation Barbarossa and quickly gained a fearsome reputation among German forces. In several engagements, individual KV tanks held up entire German columns because many German anti-tank weapons were unable to penetrate their armor.

The vehicle's large turret and heavy howitzer made it highly effective against fortified positions but also created mobility and reliability challenges. Production ended in 1941 as Soviet industry shifted toward simpler, more practical designs.

Despite its short service life, the KV-2 became one of the most iconic Soviet armored vehicles of the war.
