Full Product Description

Tamiya 1/35 British Sherman Firefly Vc

As Allied forces prepared for the invasion of Normandy, British tank crews faced a serious challenge: the German Panther and Tiger tanks. The solution was the Sherman Firefly, a modified Sherman equipped with the powerful British 17-pounder anti-tank gun capable of defeating Germany's heaviest armor at combat ranges.

The Firefly quickly became one of the most feared Allied tanks of the war. Although outwardly similar to a standard Sherman, the longer gun barrel and redesigned turret transformed the vehicle into a formidable tank killer.

Tamiya's Sherman Firefly Vc captures this famous vehicle with the company's trademark combination of excellent fit, straightforward assembly, and accurate detail. The kit includes British crew figures, realistic surface textures, detailed suspension, and markings for vehicles serving in Northwest Europe during 1944-45.

Historical Background

The Firefly was created by British engineers who installed the powerful 17-pounder anti-tank gun into the Sherman V (M4A4) chassis. The conversion gave Allied armored units a weapon capable of engaging Panthers and Tigers on more equal terms.

During the Normandy campaign, Fireflies were often distributed among standard Sherman troops, with one Firefly assigned to each troop of tanks. Their presence proved invaluable during the fighting across France, Belgium, and Germany.

Perhaps the Firefly's most famous success occurred when tanks from the British Army helped destroy elements of German armored forces during the fighting around Normandy, including encounters involving Tiger tanks.
