Takom 1/35 Bergepanther Ausf.A (Kit 2101)
For the Takom 1/35 Bergepanther Ausf.A (Kit 2101), the most important buying criteria are interior detail, accuracy of the recovery equipment, Panther chassis detail, and build complexity. Takom's Bergepanther series is considered among the most detailed recovery vehicle kits available, featuring a full interior, recovery winch, engine compartment, transmission, and fighting compartment details.
Historical Background
The Sd.Kfz.179 Bergepanther Ausf.A was developed to recover disabled Panthers and Tigers that were too heavy for existing German recovery vehicles. Based on the Panther Ausf.A chassis, it carried a powerful winch, towing equipment, and a wooden A-frame crane for field repairs and vehicle recovery. Production began in 1943 and continued through the end of the war.
What Modelers Like
Full interior from bow to engine compartment
Detailed winch and recovery gear
Excellent weld-seam representation
Link-and-length tracks
Photo-etched details included
Outstanding display potential with open hatches and removable panels
Things to Watch Out For
Interior assembly significantly increases build time
Many components become hidden if the model is built buttoned-up
Interior painting requires planning before assembly
More complex than Takom's Blitz Panther series
I'd place the Takom Bergepanther Ausf.A among the best recovery vehicle kits currently available. If you enjoy interiors and want a centerpiece Panther-based vehicle without building another gun tank, this is an excellent choice and one of the most interesting support vehicles of WWII.
