The Kinetic Gold F/A-18A+/B/CF-188 is one of the strongest choices available for modelers seeking a detailed 1/48-scale Legacy Hornet.
Compared with the older Hasegawa Hornet kits, Kinetic offers more extensive weapons, full-length intake ducts, photo-etched details, and additional configuration options. Hasegawa remains highly regarded for its overall accuracy and refined engineering, but Kinetic provides a more comprehensive package straight from the box.
Compared with Hobby Boss, Kinetic offers finer surface detail and a more convincing representation of several aircraft features. Its multiple national marking options are another advantage.
The older Revell/Monogram Hornet remains a worthwhile budget alternative, although its tooling and surface detailing are less sophisticated.
Why Choose Kinetic Gold?
Modern, finely engraved surface detail
Single-seat and two-seat configuration options
Full-length engine intake ducts
Separate control surfaces for additional display options
Extensive weapons and external stores
Photo-etched metal detailing
High-quality Cartograf decals
Canadian, Australian, and Spanish aircraft markings
Our Assessment: The Kinetic Gold Hornet offers an excellent combination of detail, versatility, and value. It is particularly attractive to experienced modelers who want a highly detailed Legacy Hornet without purchasing extensive aftermarket accessories.
The complexity of its assembly makes it better suited to intermediate and advanced builders than beginners.
