Historical Background

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 entered service in 1941 and quickly earned a reputation as one of the Luftwaffe's best fighters. Its powerful BMW 801 fourteen-cylinder radial engine, wide-track landing gear, and heavy armament made it a formidable opponent for Allied aircraft.

The A-7 introduced improved armament with additional 13 mm machine guns, while the A-8 became the most-produced Fw 190 variant, with more than 6,500 aircraft built. Armed with machine guns and 20 mm cannon, it served as an interceptor, bomber destroyer, fighter-bomber, and ground attack aircraft throughout the final years of World War II.

More than 20,000 Fw 190s of all variants were produced, making it one of Germany's most important wartime fighters.
