Full Product Description

Italeri 1/32 Macchi MC.202 Folgore

The Macchi MC.202 Folgore ("Lightning") is widely considered the finest Italian fighter of World War II. Combining elegant lines, excellent maneuverability, and the powerful Alfa Romeo-built DB 601 engine, the Folgore proved capable of matching many Allied fighters over North Africa, the Mediterranean, and the defense of Italy.

Italeri's all-new 1/32 scale Folgore is the first widely available modern-tool kit of this important aircraft. The model features a fully detailed engine, cockpit, wheel wells, photo-etched details, copper wire, vinyl tubing, 3D cockpit decals, and a large Cartograf decal sheet with eight marking options. One of the highlights is the inclusion of the famous Italian "smoke ring" camouflage decals, making one of modeling's most challenging paint schemes far easier to reproduce.

Historical Background

Entering service in 1941, the MC.202 transformed Italian fighter capability. Powered by a licensed version of the Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine, the Folgore offered significantly improved speed and climb performance over earlier Italian fighters.

The aircraft served extensively in North Africa, Sicily, and the defense of mainland Italy. Pilots praised its agility and handling, and many historians consider it one of the best Axis fighters of the early war period. Its distinctive camouflage patterns remain among the most recognizable aircraft finishes of World War II.
