Product Description

Hobby Boss 1/48 Republic F-105D Thunderchief (Kit No. 80332)

The Republic F-105D Thunderchief—known affectionately as the "Thud"—was the primary strike aircraft of the U.S. Air Force during the early years of the Vietnam War. Designed as a supersonic nuclear strike fighter, the F-105 evolved into a formidable conventional attack aircraft capable of carrying more bomb load than many World War II heavy bombers.

Hobby Boss's 1/48 scale F-105D is an impressive large-scale representation of this legendary aircraft. The kit features finely engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit, full intake trunking, engine detail, extensive weapons options, positionable control surfaces, and a large decal sheet. The model captures the Thunderchief's massive size and distinctive appearance, making it a standout addition to any Vietnam War aircraft collection.

Historical Background

The F-105D Thunderchief first flew in 1955 and entered service in 1958. It became the backbone of USAF strike operations during the Vietnam War, flying dangerous missions against heavily defended targets in North Vietnam. Despite suffering significant combat losses, the Thunderchief delivered the majority of strike missions during the early years of the conflict.

Capable of exceeding Mach 2 and carrying up to 14,000 pounds of ordnance, the F-105 remains the largest single-engine combat aircraft ever placed into operational service.
