Product Description

Dragon 1/35 OH-6A Cayuse "Loach" (Kit No. 3298)

Nicknamed the "Loach" (from the acronym LOH – Light Observation Helicopter), the OH-6A Cayuse became one of the most daring and effective helicopters of the Vietnam War. Flying low-level reconnaissance missions, scouting enemy positions, and serving as bait for armed helicopter teams, Loach crews routinely faced some of the highest casualty rates of the war.

Dragon's 1/35 scale OH-6A accurately captures the compact appearance of this legendary helicopter. The kit features a detailed cockpit, finely engraved surface detail, full interior components, optional open doors, clear canopy parts, and markings for Vietnam-era aircraft. The finished model is an excellent companion to 1/35 scale UH-1 Hueys, Cobras, and Vietnam-era figures and vehicles.

Historical Background

The Hughes OH-6A Cayuse won the U.S. Army's Light Observation Helicopter competition in the early 1960s. Small, agile, and fast, the aircraft became famous during the Vietnam War as part of the "Pink Team" concept, operating alongside AH-1G Cobra gunships.

Loach crews often flew extremely low reconnaissance missions to draw enemy fire and identify targets for supporting gunships. Despite their vulnerability, these aircraft proved remarkably effective and earned a legendary reputation among Army aviators.

More than 1,400 OH-6As were built, and many remain in civilian and military service worldwide today.
