Product Description

The P-40 Warhawk was one of the most widely used Allied fighters of World War II, serving in every major combat theater and flown by famous units such as the Flying Tigers, RAF Desert Air Force squadrons, and numerous Allied air forces around the world.

This Detail & Scale Volume 62 by renowned aviation author Bert Kinzey covers the later development of the P-40 family, from the P-40D through the XP-40Q experimental variants. This expanded edition features a larger format and additional color photography, making it one of the most desirable references for aviation historians and model builders.

The book provides detailed coverage of airframe changes, operational history, markings, camouflage schemes, cockpit details, armament, and technical features unique to each variant. It serves as an excellent companion to Volume 61, which covers the earlier P-40 models.

For scale modelers, the volume offers invaluable references for building accurate P-40E, K, M, N, and experimental XP-40Q aircraft in any scale.

Historical Significance

The Curtiss P-40 served with Allied air forces throughout World War II and became famous through the exploits of the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) in China. While later overshadowed by newer fighters such as the P-51 Mustang and P-47 Thunderbolt, the P-40 was rugged, reliable, and effective in ground attack and low-altitude combat roles.

The later P-40 variants featured improved engines, increased fuel capacity, and enhanced performance, allowing the aircraft to remain competitive throughout much of the war.
