Full Product Description

Andy's Hobby Headquarters 1/16 M113A1 / M113A1 ACAV APC

The M113 became one of the most recognizable armored vehicles of the Vietnam War. Lightweight, reliable, and highly adaptable, the vehicle served as a troop carrier, command vehicle, ambulance, mortar carrier, and reconnaissance platform.

In Vietnam, crews often modified their vehicles with additional armor and machine guns, creating the famous ACAV (Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicle) configuration. The ACAV added armored gun shields and multiple machine guns, dramatically increasing firepower and crew protection.

This large-scale 1/16 kit allows the builder to choose between a standard M113A1 APC or the combat-proven ACAV version. The kit includes a full figure, decals, photo-etched details, and numerous optional parts to accurately depict either configuration.

The tooling is based on Takom's excellent large-scale armor engineering and offers exceptional detail and display presence.

Historical Background

The M113 entered U.S. Army service in the early 1960s and quickly became one of the most widely used armored personnel carriers in military history. More than 80,000 vehicles have been produced, serving with over 50 nations worldwide.

During the Vietnam War, M113 crews frequently added additional machine guns and armor protection. These field modifications evolved into the official ACAV configuration used extensively by U.S. armored cavalry units throughout Southeast Asia.

The ACAV became one of the most iconic armored vehicles of the Vietnam conflict and remains a favorite subject among military modelers.
