Accurate Miniatures 1/48 B-25B Mitchell

The North American B-25 Mitchell became one of the most successful medium bombers of World War II, serving in every major theater of combat. The early B-25B variant achieved legendary status when sixteen Mitchells launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet on April 18, 1942, during the famous Doolittle Raid against Japan.

Accurate Miniatures' B-25B was considered revolutionary when released. The kit introduced a level of interior detail rarely seen in aircraft kits at the time, including a fully detailed cockpit, navigator's station, bombardier compartment, radio equipment, bomb bay, and crew areas.

Even decades after its release, many modelers still regard it as one of the finest 1/48 Mitchell kits ever produced. FineScale Modeler praised the kit's accuracy, detail, and engineering, while noting its complexity compared to typical aircraft kits.

Historical Background

On April 18, 1942, Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle led sixteen B-25B Mitchell bombers from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet in one of the most daring operations of World War II. Although the physical damage inflicted on Japan was limited, the raid provided a major morale boost for the United States and demonstrated that the Japanese home islands were vulnerable to attack.

The B-25 would go on to serve throughout the war in Europe, North Africa, China-Burma-India, and the Pacific, becoming one of America's most versatile and successful combat aircraft.
